Swimming
The coastline of Galway and Clare are renown for it's beaches. Close by
is Silverstrand. Silverstrand has a safe, shallow, sandy beach of
approximately 0.25km bounded on one side by a cliff and the other by
rocks. It is particularly popular with and suitable for young families.
It faces directly into Galway Bay giving spectacular views. There is a
promenade with parking capacity for about 60 vehicles. It is suitable
for swimming at low tide but the beach is largely covered during high
tides. It is life guarded during the summer months. |

Galway
Races
The Galway Races holds a very special place in the heart of many
race-goers from across the globe, and indeed in the hearts of
Galwegians themselves. Over the course of the year there are a number
of punter meetings as well as the July festival meeting - the
Cheltemham of Ireland.
Galway race-track is a right handed course of one mile and two
furlongs, with a steep decline into the dip where the last two fences
are situated. These fences are famous for being the closest two fences
on any racecourse in the world. There is a sharp incline to the finish
line. |
